Update 23 - Tag Editor & More Abilities
Update
- Tag editor. You can now create your own tags to use in abilities. Go to games & mods -> Select your game -> actions -> tag editor.
- Tags are now displayed first when selecting abilities.
- Changed "on summon" abilities to "on play", this is to make them work with cards like spells in the future. In hindsight, it should have been like this from the start.
- OnPlay Mana abilities added.
- Added advanced on play or death: destroy, damage, return, set, buff, debuff and reduce abilities added. (ie OnPlaySetAllMinions)
- Yes/No values are now a checkboxes.
- Single player options now combined into play solo.
- Multiplayer seperated into play online and play direct.
- Fixed bug where you could select no card art.
- Game/mod name now displayed in card editor.
- Loaded mod name added to main menu title.
- Edit button on the main menu is now just called Editor.
- Abilities without a description (tags) now end with a dot to make seperation more clear.
- Fixed issue where some lua files were loaded twice.
- Added simple ability code options and validation.
- Ability code descriptions reworked to make them less verbose and allow inline checks.
The update took longer than planned, and then I got sick and needed some vacation at the end of the year. I have tried to make the updates weekly, but that doesn't seem sustainable. I will still try to do them weekly, but if an update needs more time, it will get it. I don't want to release an update in a too buggy state. If I haven't updated in a while you can ask for the status on the discord.
This update mainly adds abilities that you can play around with for your own game, and the tag editor allows you to create tags you can use on minions and in abilities.
There were many changes to existing abilities, so if you cannot upgrade games you have created, please ping me on the discord.
The abilities are getting out of hand with all the variations and many of the new advanced abilities replace some old onces, they will need a clenup soon. I think I will have to create a ability parser soon, the idea is you can just write "On Play: Deal 2 damage to all minions." and it will create the ability from that.
In a previous update I mentioned getting feedback from r/DestroyMyGame, that is still the plan, however I asked a few designers first. The main message I got back was that I should focus on my vision.
I love card games and their strategy, so I wanted to create a simpler Hearthstone but with mods and none of the usual annoying CCG monetization which drives me away. However I later asked myself: if I am already adding modding, why not make it really easy so everyone can create, share and play card games? So that is my focus/vision, instead of just another CCG, I want to create a place for card game players and creates, kind of like Starcraft 2, a card battle simulator if you will.
With that in mind, I realised that I was missing a critical feature before I could get proper feedback. Currently you can only play the included game online, I need to allow people to easily play their custom games.
So here is my current roadmap:
- Online mod sharing & lobbies.
- Get feedback.
- Prepare for steam (determined by feedback)
- Steam early access release.
Before I begin working on online, I want a small update to get me started after the vacation. The next update will just be combining the card and tag editor into one editor to make that easier.
